Join a clinical trial as a healthy participant
The goal of this trial is to learn more about the safety of EDI048 and how well it works to treat diarrhea caused by Cryptosporidium infection, also called Crypto. Crypto is an infection caused by a parasite that causes diarrhea and other gut-related symptoms.
This is one of many trials a drug must go through before it can be approved for doctors to prescribe for people with Crypto.
You will be in the trial for up to 12 weeks, which will include:
- One hospital stay that will last 8-14 days
- Visits to the trial site up to 4 times, for the trial. If your Trial Doctor wants you to return for a check up to monitor your health, you may have additional visits to the trial site.
- Trial staff calling you by phone up to 6 times, for the trial. If your Trial Doctor wants to call to monitor your health, you may have additional phone calls from trial staff.
Most trial visits should take 2 to 3 hours, though some study visits may be longer.

Information about Crypto Infection
You do not already need to be infected with Crypto to join the trial.
You will be given the infection (ABO809) during the first hospital stay.
If you get diarrhea from the infection, you will then be treated with the Trial Treatment (EDI048) or placebo and continue with the rest of the trial.
Regardless of if you get the trial treatment or placebo, you will be given Nitazoxanide, which is an approved medication to treat a Crypto infection.
